Keep in mind that although you have the option of storing it in its case and only taking it out to play, it's an instrument that can also be placed in a corner of your room or studio. It can even serve as an impromptu stool!
Jokes aside, any instrument we acquire should be one we feel comfortable with. The dimensions should be appropriate for playing comfortably while sitting on it. A child-sized cajon would not be suitable as a beginner's cajon for an adult, especially due to its small size.
Similarly, we will feel more comfortable playing an instrument that is visually pleasing to us, which is a matter of personal taste. You might prefer more understated instruments or opt for more youthful and fun designs. While there is also the option of getting a custom flamenco cajon, it might not be the most appropriate choice for a beginner
